Edn dept shuts down unrecognized school

ITANAGAR, May 16: The education department closed down the Green Park Residential School in Lekhi on Monday.
The department issued a public notice to the parents and students of the school on Monday, informing that “the school has been running without government recognition and prior approval from the competent authority, which is an illegal and gross violation of Section 18 of the RTE Act, 2009.”
The department requested students and parents not to take admission in the school.
Meanwhile, Capital Complex SP Tumme Amo has suggested to the district administration to constitute a committee to carry out inspection of all the private schools and verify their documents, infrastructure and safety and security measures.
“Due to negligence of staff and school authority of Green Park School, Lekhi village, Naharlagun, one seven yearl schoolboy lost his life on 29 January, 2019, and the case registered at the Naharlagun police station (Case No 13/19 U/S 304A IPC) has been finalized,” the SP said.
Amo said the shocking incident of a schoolboy falling to his death from an open third floor of the school building was proof of the school’s “total negligence and very casual attitude towards the safety and security measures for the safekeeping of the children in the school.”
He said the closure of the school came after the capital police requested the education department to do so.
