Tabletop exercise on disaster mgmt held

PASIGHAT, Jun 6: The East Siang district administration organised a tabletop exercise on disaster management here on Thursday, in collaboration with the police department and the Dhemaji (Assam)-based National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
“A prepared society is always safe. It is a good time to reexamine what we’ve done so far, what mistakes we’ve made, and what improvements should come next,” Deputy Commissioner Kinny Singh, who is also the district disaster management authority chairperson, said.
She informed that NDRF personnel will stage a mock drill in the flood-prone Bakul area of Mebo subdivision on 7 June.
The DC said the ADCs of the respective subdivisions would act as “incident commanders,” and directed them to be responsive to the people in their subdivisions.
Regarding pre- and post- disaster situations, she said the administration would keep a close watch on the situation.
The DC also advised government officers not to leave their stations during the coming monsoon “and stay prepared to deliver prompt service as and when required.”
East Siang SP Prashant Gautam, who is the chief of operations, enumerated several preventive steps, and urged the people living in low-lying areas to be alert.
NDRF Assistant Commandant Vimal Gupta and Inspector Sunil Kr Yadav spoke on the role of the NDRF and offered lifesaving tips through a PowerPoint presentation. (DIPRO)
