TAWANG, Jun 29: The second district level Subroto Cup Football Tournament for U-17 boys and girls was inaugurated at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso high-altitude stadium here by local MLA Tsering Tashi on Saturday.
Tawang ADC Bekir Nyorak, PD Lobsang Tsetan and DDSE Hridhar Phuntso, along with public leaders and headmasters, teachers and students from various secondary and higher secondary schools participated in the inaugural function.
The DDSE spoke about the aims and objectives of organising such tournaments, while the ADC advised the players to “play with discipline and sportsman spirit,” saying “the game is won by techniques, not by physical strength.”
The MLA congratulated the participants on being selected from their respective schools to play at the district level, and advised the students to “make good use of this platform to achieve higher goals.”
“Physical education is equally important as bookish knowledge,” he said, and expressed his readiness to assist the selected team “in their further journey in state level,” besides wishing them luck to get selected for the national level tournament.
The MLA along with the ADC later distributed laptops to the meritorious girl students of Class 11 (science). Eleven girl students of Tawang district were given laptops under the Acharya Dronacharya Gurukul Shiksha Yojana. (DIPRO)
