Rally held to demand adequate SBI staff

LONGDING, Jun 29: A large number of students, members of the business community and others took out a rally here on Saturday, demanding adequate staff at the State Bank of India’s (SBI) branch here.
Organized by the Longding District Students’ Union, the rally sought to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to the inconvenience faced by the people of the district due to the shortage of staff at the SBI branch.
The union claimed in a press release that the bank’s lone branch here is being manned by a single officer and two clerks, who it said are unable to serve the increasing number of customers due to work overload.
The union said it had earlier written to the SBI’s assistant general manager in Tinsukia (Assam), seeking adequate staff strength at the SBI branch in Longding.
“The students are deprived of availing stipends and scholarships, and people cannot avail government schemes,” it said.
