BORUM, Jul 3: The All Borum & Tarajuli Panchayat Welfare Committee on Thursday urged the chief engineer PHED&WS (western zone) to take up with the state government the proposal of a project that will connect safe drinking water supply from Nyorch River to the villages of Sood, Borum, Tarajuly and Nyorch under Papum Pare district, within the current fiscal year.
In a one-point memorandum submitted to the chief engineer, the committee claimed that the people of the said villages have been facing hardship for the last many years due to lack of proper supply of safe drinking water.
“The present water supply connection was established in 1996-97 when the total population was only 300, but now it has increased to above 800 and is still increasing. The current water supply covers only 20 percent of the population and rest 80 percent of population is yet to be provided with safe drinking water,” it claimed.
The committee further threatened to resort to democratic action if the authorities fail to fulfil their demand soon.
