Union condemns alleged ragging and assault

AALO, Aug 3: The All Kombo Students’ Union has strongly condemned the alleged ragging of and physical assault on one Tomi Rike Lendo, a Class 11 (humanities) student of the government higher secondary school (GHSS) here in West Siang district, by fellow students on 31 July, and requested the school authority to initiate strict disciplinary action against those involved.
In a complaint letter to the school’s principal, the union claimed that incidents of ragging had been
taking place at the GHSS since 2016 “but no satisfactory action was initiated by the school authorities against the persons involved in ragging.”
Meanwhile, the principal of the GHSS, Nyali Pakam, said the school authority would carry out an investigation into the incident and take action as per the rules.
“I cannot say for sure if this was a case of ragging. The boy’s father has lodged a complaint with the police, and those involved have been taken to the police station for questioning. The school authority can only take action once the police have completed their investigation,” the principal said.
