Veteran’s Gold Cup football tourney starts in Roing

ROING, Aug 5: The first ever Veteran’s Gold Cup football tournament for players above 35 years of age was kicked off by former ZPC Chiliko Meto at the Kera aa Jubilee Ground here in Lower Dibang Valley (LDV) district on Monday.
Themed ‘Say not to alcohol’, the tournament is being organized by the Roing Town Club to promote health and fitness, said Dene Mena of the organising committee.
“There are a number of very good senior football players in the district, and the idea of the tournament was conceived to provide a platform and bring them back to the field,” he said.
Ten teams from LDV, Dibang Valley and Lohit districts are participating in the tournament.
“It is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle, and games and sports are the best ways to stay physically fit and healthy,” said Meto.
Meto is also playing in the tournament, for Siwundi FC.
The opening match, between Siwundi FC and Athu Popu FC, ended in a 1-1 draw.
The tournament is sponsored by Rajya Sabha member Mukut Mithi, MLA Mutchu Mithi and Mahindra & Mahindra.
