MEBO, Aug 11: Local MLA Lombo Tayeng on Sunday felicitated the state level Subroto Cup (boys) winners – the government secondary school (GSS), Motum, in East Siang district – with cash awards as a token of encouragement.
The school, representing East Siang, defeated East Kameng in the final.
The girls’ team from the school also reached the semifinal in the state level tournament, which was held in Itanagar last month.
Tayeng awarded Rs 1 lakh along with sports items to the winners, the semifinalists, the coaches, and other supporting staff.
Expressing happiness over the performance of the GSS, Tayeng encouraged the players to continue their streak by winning the national level Subroto Mukherjee football tournament.
Assuring them of all possible help from the state government’s end, Tayeng advised the players to “keep up with the tempo and practice hard to perform well at the international level Subroto Cup.”
GSS Motum, being the state level winner, will represent Arunachal at the international level Subroto Cup tournament.
“I have requested the MP duo of the state, Tapir Gao and Kiren Rijiju, to look after the Arunachal football team in New Delhi. I am confident that our team will perform upto the expectations in the tournament and bring laurels to the state,” the MLA said.
Mebo ADC Hage Lailang, East Siang DDSE Jongge Yirang, Daying Ering HS School Principal Apel Tayeng, and retired principal Biyon Yirang were also present on the occasion, and advised the young players to maintain discipline in life to achieve success.
