Agricultural implements demonstrated

DOIMUKH, Sep 7: An ‘awareness-cum-demonstration mela of agricultural tools and equipment’ was organized at Gumto village here in Papum Pare district by the NERIST on Friday.
The purpose of the event was to demonstrate various improved technologies to the farmers in order to help them enhance their income and develop linkages.
NERIST Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) regional coordinator, Prof P Lingfa, emphasized the role of the UBA and how it can be linked with farmers in nation-building.
During the mela, the AICRP on ESA demonstrated improved hand tools and machinery for paddy cultivation, ladders for harvesting fruits, remote controlled power tiller, safety gadgets for daos and sickles, pea planter, maize sheller, etc.
UBA coordinator Dr T Patel spoke about the latest technology available for improving the income of small and marginal farmers.
NERIST Assistant Professor AK Choudhary highlighted post-harvest technology management using local resources, while Associate Professor Dr AD Singh emphasized on the use of electronic instrumentation and control systems for solving problems in agriculture “for taking maximum profit with minimum input.”
Improved ‘NERIST sickles’ were also distributed among the participants.
The event was sponsored by the union HRD ministry.
