SIMONG, Sep 21: Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao on Saturday inaugurated the longest community hall (dere) of the Adi community in Simong village in Upper Siang district.
The hall measures 63 mtrs in length and 11 mtrs in width. It was constructed at a cost Rs 1 crore on a ‘no loss, no profit’ basis by the RWD, under the supervision of EE Gatling Lipir, who is a native of Simong.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Gao said community halls “are the social and cultural centres for the people of the Adi society and hence their preservation is of utmost importance.”
Health Minister Alo Libang, who is the local legislator as well as a native of Simong, spoke on the religious importance of Simong, saying “it was a holy site in Tibetan Buddhism because of the visit and stay of the great Tibetan saint, Rinpoche Ugen Pema, at the place where Simong village was later established.”
Pangin MLA Ojing Tasing, Rumgong MLA Talem Taboh and Mariyang-Geku MLA Kanggong Taku were also present on the occasion.
