ITANAGAR, Sep 21: Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF), led by its president Dobing Sonam, on Saturday met union MoS for Railways Suresh Angadi here and submitted a representation demanding the introduction of a new daytime train service between Naharlagun and Guwahati.
The federation stated that a large number of passengers who travel to Guwahati from Naharlagun or Itanagar prefer doing so only in the daytime, and the present ones run either early in the morning or at night from Naharlagun.
The Shatabdi Express, which runs thrice a week, departs from the Naharlagun railway station at 5 am, while the Donyi Polo Express, which runs daily, leaves the station at 6:45 pm, it said.
The AAPPTF also urged the minister to increase the timing of the rail ticket counter from 8 am-2 pm to 8 am-8 pm. The current timing, it said, is depriving the people of far-flung areas from getting the tickets at the normal rates, as by the time they reach the counter it normally gets closed.
Increasing manpower at the Naharlagun railway station and introduction of an ATM facility in the station premises were the other demands of the federation.
It later said the MoS was “positive towards the demands placed forth by the AAPPTF.”
