Youths trained in organic farming

SAMUGURI, Nov 8: Thirty-seven youths participated in a three-day training programme on ‘Recognition of prior learning (RPL) for organic growers’, which was held at Samuguri village in Namsai district from 5-7 November.
The objective of the skill certification scheme is to enable a large number of youths to take up industry-relevant skill training, which would help them in securing a better livelihood. Under the RPL-PMKVY, beneficiaries were pre-screened, counselled, and assessed in accordance with the National Skills Qualification Framework.
During the programme, Namsai KVK scientist Momong Bydyapati Ngangom spoke about organic farming, seasonal plan, planting methodology and seed selection under organic farming, while scientist Madhumita Sonowal Bora explained soil nutrient management, weed and irrigation control, quality assurance and certification, and health and safety issues in organic farming.
Namsai Spices Board Field Office SFO, Senthil Kumaran, spoke on integrated pest and disease management in organic farming, and SFO Puvichonu Rhutso explained harvest and post-harvest management in organic farming.
Practical demonstration on preparation of organic inputs like panchagavya, matkakhad and beejamruth were also held for the trainees.
