Hangpan Dada memorial trophy tournament for Tirap held

Laho, Khela to represent Tirap in boys’ and girls’ football

KHONSA, Nov 29: Laho and Khela will represent Tirap in the boys’ and girls’ football at the 4th State Level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy Tournament.
Laho defeated Khela 7-0 in the final match, played at Nehru Stadium here on Friday, and became the district champion.
On the other hand, Kolam and KGBV will represent the district in the boys’ and girls’ volleyball tournament, respectively.
Attending the closing ceremony, Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin spoke about the importance of taking part in sports activities.
“Apart from help benefits, sports teach young players about teamwork, help develop personality, and inculcate discipline,” Sawin said.
He emphasized on teamwork, and also remembered the sacrifice made by martyr Hangpan Dada for the nation.
Describing Dada as “an epitome of unity and courage,” the MLA said Dada “should be a positive role model for every youth to follow.”
Meanwhile, Sawin announced to contribute Rs 5 lakhs from his local area development fund for development of sports in the district, besides Rs 20,000 to the winners and runners-up teams as a token of encouragement.
36th CRPF Commanding Officer, SK Behura, also spoke.
Later, Sawin, Dada’s widow Chasen, and Commandant Behura gave away the prizes to the winners, runners-up and the best players of the tournament.
