TAWANG, Nov 29: The Indian Council of Agriculture Research – National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resource (ICAR-NBPGR), in collaboration with the agriculture department and the Tawang KVK, organised a ‘Plant genetic resources awareness programme-cum-diversity fair’ here on Friday.
Interacting with the farmers who attended the event, the NBGPR’s seed technology principal scientist, Dr Sushil Pandey, spoke about organic farming, preservation of traditional crops and seeds, food security, farmers’ registration, gene bank, and doubling of farmers’ income.
“Our purpose of visit is not only to give you awareness but also to know from you about your traditional way of agricultural activities,” said Dr Pandey.
NBPGR scientists, Drs Narendra Pawar and Arun Sharma, replied to queries raised by the farmers relating to crop production and how to increase crop quantity and quality.
The farmers were later provided with agriculture toolkits.
