Workshop on design intervention on handloom products held

BOMDILA, Jan 24: A one-day workshop on ‘Design intervention on handloom products and their market scope’ was organized by the department of handloom and textile here in West Kameng district on Friday.
The purpose of the workshop, funded under the BADP, was to create design interventions in the Bomdila Emporium. These design interventions aimed at making new products which caters to the tourists visiting the district.
During the workshop, resource person Kitu Gupta, a fashion designer and a professor at the Pearl Academy from Mumbai, helped the trainees create ten new affordable products, all using use local fabric and traditional motifs and design readily available in the Bomdila Craft Centre, thus making the production process cost effective.
A hands-on training was provided to the master trainers and trainees of the Bomdila Craft Centre for the same.
Earlier, in her inaugural address, deputy commissioner Sonal Swaroop urged the trainees to take up the venture whole-heartedly to strengthen the socio-economic condition of every household.
District Planning Officer and Deputy Director of Textile and Handloom were also present on the occasion. (DIPRO)
