Landlady waives off rent

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: In a gesture worthy of emulation, a landlady, Dumsap Dada, in East Kameng HQ Seppa, has decided to waive off a month’s rent for the two shopping complexes she owns there, in view of the ongoing statewide lockdown.
The shopping complexes house 10 shops. The waiver will cost the landlady Rs 90,000.
Dada, a widow, made the decision to waive off the rent for April after witnessing the losses her shopkeeper tenants are incurring because of the lockdown.
“I made the decision after seeing their (shopkeepers) situation. They have families, too,” she said. “I made the decision on humanitarian ground.”
She said she considers it unethical to ask for rent in these trying times.
“It is such a relief to know that our landlady has decided to waive off a month’s rent. In this hour of crisis, it is a huge relief for us,” said Rakesh Tareek, who runs ‘Tuskar’ hardware store in Seppa.
Another trader, Luna Ram, who deals in hardware and utensils, also expressed gratitude to Dada for her noble gesture.
“There has been no business this whole month. Our businesses have been totally shattered because of the lockdown. Our landlady’s decision is indeed appreciable,” he said.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has also thanked Dada for her kind gesture towards her tenants. The chief minister tweeted about it from his official Twitter handle.
