ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Team Environment Protection Committee (Team EPC) in Lower Subansiri HQ Ziro has started distributing free facemasks in all the villages in and around Ziro town. It has distributed over 800 masks in two days.
Speaking to this daily, Team EPC president Subu Sala said they began the initiative “with the intent of creating awareness amongst the masses about the novel coronavirus and to provide them with masks and sanitizers, which are in short supply across the country at the moment.”
The masks are sewn by tailors in the town, using cotton material, and are handed over to the youth leaders in the colonies, to be distributed among the residents.
Many are putting the masks up on their respective village ‘lapang’ and also handing them to passersby who are without facemasks.
The district administration is facilitating the movement of members of Team EPC to distribute facemasks, while local MLA Tage Taki donated fund to the team to start the initiative.
“We will try to collect further funds from our members, or seek donations from those who can aid in this initiative to fight against Covid-19,” Sala said.
Team EPC also intends to prepare hand sanitizer to be distributed across the town, and is currently working on the formula.
