ITANAGAR, Apr 4: Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Governor BD Mishra have in separate message conveyed greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Mopin festival of the Galo community.
The CM in his message said these are trying times for the entire humankind, and expressed hope that the prayers offered during the festival would help people tide over the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are going through trying times due to the exponential spread of Covid-19. This Mopin, let’s pray for the wellbeing of all sentient beings,” he said, and appealed to all to follow the guidelines circulated by the health department and maintain physical distancing.
“We know this time the celebrations wouldn’t be as grand as before. Nevertheless, it doesn’t take away the significance of Mopin in our lives. Let’s celebrate it in a manner that we leave no space for the virus to spread. Let’s help each other to break the chain of its propagation,” the CM said.
The governor in his message said: “On this festive occasion, which this year we are celebrating within our own homes, I join the Galo community in offering prayers to Mopin Ane for grant of wisdom and will to all of us for social distancing to overcome the challenges of the coronavirus disease.”
Stating that he appreciates the deferring of the collective celebration of Mopin, Mishra said, “I am confident that this ethno-social festival will continue to promote the age-old legacies of the Galo tribe and promote the preservation of their treasured legacies.” (CM’s PR Cell & Raj Bhavan)
