VAT on petro products, cess on alcohol revised

ITANAGAR, May 4: The state government has revised the value added tax (VAT) on petroleum products from 5 May, following a cabinet meeting held here on Monday.
Accordingly, the revised VAT on motor spirit will be 20 percent, and 12.5 percent on high-speed diesel.
The state government has also levied a cess of 10 percent on wholesale prices (inclusive of VAT) of IMFL and beer with effect from 5 May, which shall be payable to the state exchequer as an additional levy.
“All collectors of excise shall issue transport permits from bonded warehouse to wholesale vendors only after the realization of the said 10 percent cess or additional levy and only after the treasury challan is duly submitted to them,” a notification from Tax, Excise & Narcotics Secretary Anirudh S Singh read.
