Altogether 33 police officials of the capital police have tested positive for Covid-19. The Naharlagun police station has been worst-hit with 30 police personnel, including an SDPO, one inspector and two sub-inspectors testing positive.
The police, along with health workers are the main frontline warriors in the battle against coronavirus.
With them getting infected, the situation has turned grim.
It is a matter of deep concern that 30 police personnel at Naharlagun PS tested positive, which include senior officers. This is a wakeup call for the police force of the state.
There is a need to revisit the standard operating procedure (SOP) being followed by the police on field duty.
Perhaps, things have gone wrong somewhere because of which so many cops were infected in a single PS.
The health department should look into this aspect and offer help to the police as they play a crucial role in the implementation of lockdown.
As a majority of the police force of Naharlagun PS is down with Covid-19, the onus lies on the citizens to respect their sacrifice by staying at home till August 3rd.
The only way to break the chain of infection is by curbing the movement of people. The lockdown has been imposed for this reason. The people should not wait for the police to regulate the lockdown. They should voluntarily stay home and support the efforts of the government to stop further transmission of Covid-19 in the state.
