Screening of agriculture products by Mengio-based cooperative farmers

MENGIO, 24 Mar: The Mengio-based farmers’ cooperative society, Paniar Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd screened its agriculture products here in the conference cum buyer-seller meet, 2021 under the supervision of senior project fellow Pill Biman under the project ‘Large cardamom and other multilayer innovative farming’ in Mengio circle of Papum Pare district recently.

The meet was held by the Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority.

Paniar Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd Chairman Nabam Tahi informed that the cooperative farmers are primarily focusing on large cardamom, ginger and wild honeybees.

“Last year they collectively produced nine metric tons of large cardamom. The cooperative farmers, however, expect to cross the 15 metric tons mark by 2022,” said Tahi.

Lead proponent of the project and HoC from the Centre for Management Studies of NERIST, Dr S Choudhury said that “farming and entrepreneurial skill sets go synchronously.”

He also highlighted the current challenges faced by the farmers, such as lack of market linkage and post-harvesting process (production, storage, and marketing).

The NERIST’s MBA final year students also attended the product screening event and were taken through a hands-on training process on real marketing circumstances, besides being taught ways to deal with different clients and communication skills.
