Over a hundred register for free eye camp

TEZU, 7 Apr: In all, 147 patients registered their names on the inaugural day of a three-day free eye camp jointly conducted by the district health society NPCB unit Lohit, Indian Army Soltam Pioneers DAO Division, Karuna Trust Tezu and National Human Rights Council at the zonal hospital here on Wednesday.

District Medical Officer Dr CL Manchay disclosed that of the 147 patients registered, 48 have been listed for cataract surgery, which will be conducted on 8 and 9 April.

Tezu Zonal Hospital senior ophthalmologist Dr Chowdin Tayang and Roing District Hospital ophthalmologist Dr Tape Kaye will carry out the surgeries.

In his inaugural address, Tezu-Sunpura MLA Karikho Kri said the programme would largely benefit the people of the district and those from the neighbouring districts. Lauding the medical staff and health care workers for their exemplary work during the Covid-19 pandemic, the MLA urged them to maintain the work culture. He further assured to renovate the old eye OPD building and provide free eye goggles for the patients of the eye camp.
