Areas declared as protected forest

CHANGLANG, 17 Jun: Changlang DC Dr Devansh Yadav has declared the areas covering “7,000 sq metres of Titing stream in Saching village and 200 metres adjoining Rakjit, Jongkem, Jongkey Nallah and Wolleng in Yatdam circle” as a protected forest under Section 12 (2) & (3) of the Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Regulation, 1947, for a period of 10 years to discourage deforestation in the areas and improve their water retention capacity.

Besides the catchment area plantation drive conducted a few months back, this step has been taken to improve the decreasing water level in the areas.

This order will not limit the ownership rights of the locals of the areas. However, felling of trees and cultivation of any kind shall be prohibited in the notified areas. There will be no restriction on access to minor forest produce in the areas. (DIPRO)
