BAM, 18 Jan: Twenty progressive farmers benefitted from a ‘training-cum-inputs distribution’ programme under the Tribal Sub-Plan, organized by the West Siang KVK at its instructional farm here in Leparada district on Tuesday.
The farmers were taught about establishing livestock-based integrated farming system (IFS) by KVK Head (in-charge) Dr Moloy Sarmah Baruah, while the ICAR’s Basar-based state centre’s Joint Director, Dr H Kalita spoke on sustainable IFS.
Thirty cross-breed piglets and pig grower feeds were later distributed among the farmers to encourage them to incorporate the piglets in their IFS activities.
Earlier, on 17 January, the West Siang KVK organized a programme on nutritional gardening and tree plantation to mark the International Year of Millets.
The programme included a plantation drive at the ICAR state centre’s research farm in Gori, and distribution of 86 planting materials, including saplings of Assam lemon, to farmers.
Rabi vegetables seeds were distributed among 32 progressive farmers.
