Org demands SIC probe into PDS black-marketing case

ITANAGAR, 10 Feb: The Indigenous Movement against Corruption and Reformation (IMACR) has demanded that the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration forward the PDS rice repackaging and black-marketing case to the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) for further investigation.

Addressing media persons at the press club here on Thursday, IMACR chairman Raj Pao claimed that several quintals of PDS rice from the capital region are being sent to Assam for repackaging.

“Repackaging activity is being executed even in some shops of the capital region.

After repackaging, it is sent back to retail shops of the capital region and is being sold in the open market,” he said.

“The stores and shops where such activity was done were earlier sealed during a raid. However, the stores are now functioning without any legal action taken against them by the department concerned and the district administration,” Pao said, adding that the IMACR should have been informed about it.

On 2 December last year, a team of the IMACR, along with officials of the food & civil supplies department raided all the PDS stores, wholesale shops and agencies in the capital region and sealed some stores for indulging in black-marketing.

“Now we demand that the district administration forward the matter to the SIC and check the detailed records of one year’s GST income tax returns of those stores. Surprisingly, the district administration is not ready to act on the request,” he claimed.

Pao said that the IMACR has decided to stage a dharna against the district administration on 15 February, outside the DC office.

This daily has sent a message to the ICR DC for his reaction. He was yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
