ITANAGAR, 23 Feb: The deputy commissioners of Capital Itanagar and Papum Pare explored the possibilities of bringing freight trains till the Naharlagun Railway Station.
In a virtual meeting convened by Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom with various stakeholders, Papumpare Deputy Commissioner Minge Sherpa said that “it would not only cut down on the cost of transportation but would also ensure faster delivery of goods.”
Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Tarh Nachung said that provisions should be made in the passenger trains to attach a few additional bogies to carry goods.
ACCI general secretary Toko Tatung said that most of the Northeastern states have such facilities, including the recent one at Manipur, “which would be cost cutting as the transportation cost from Guwahati to Naharlagun via roads results in increase in prices of goods.”
DC Potom asked the ACCI to submit all the details of requirements with regard to the operationalisation of freight trains up to Naharlagun to his office at the earliest for forwarding the same to the higher authorities.
The Naharlagun Railway Station manager, and president, secretary and representatives of market welfare associations of the Capital were also present. (DIPRO)
