Driver arrested for alleged nexus with oil mafia

DAPORIJO, 3 Apr: A driver of an oil tanker has been arrested by the Gensi police in Lower Siang district in connection with the disappearance of 12,000 litres of diesel, and for his alleged nexus with an oil mafia.

The police have registered a case against the driver (u/s 279/381/120(B)/407/420/201/34, r/w Section 3 of PDPP Act) at the Gensi police station.

The complainant, Rijo Auto Agency, in its FIR stated that the fully loaded oil tanker met with an accident while returning from Doimukh to Daporijo on the night of 27 March at a place around 36 kms from Likabali. The complainant came to know about the accident on 28 March.

The complainant immediately alerted its network in Asaam, and caught the fleeing driver, Rajendra Prasad, from Banderdewa.

As per the driver’s statement, the complainant said, a person named Hatti alias Lotho Sonowal forced him to empty the oil tanker in Assam’s Samajan, and later the tanker was deliberately grounded into a deep gorge.

The complainant alleged that the whole episode was a pre-planned one to steal fuel. It appealed to the police to apprehend the kingpin of the oil mafia and punish them as per the law.

The police at the Gensi police station have taken the case seriously and investigation is underway.

The driver is presently in police custody.
