Five boxers assured of medals

ITANAGAR, 29 Apr: Arunachal Pradesh bagged its first medal in the ongoing NE Regional Sports Week in badminton mixed team event on Friday in Imphal, Manipur.
The team, which entered into the final after defeating Assam 3-1, settled for the silver medal after going down 0-3 to host Manipur on Friday evening.
Five boxers from Arunachal entered into the semifinals and are assured of medals in the ongoing event.
In the men’s section, Heli Tana Tara (48 kg) beat Irfan Khan of Assam by a split decision of 4-1 in the quarterfinal on Friday, while Guruk Pardung (57 kg) won by unanimous decision against Sikkim’s Abhoy Chetry.
Marge Gara outclassed Probesh Tamang of Sikkim to win the bout by RSC (referee stopped the contest) method.
Hari Sangno (50 kg) lost to Soibam Singh of Manipur by unanimous decision.
In the women’s category, Minu Cheda (52 kg) won by a split decision of 4-1 against Minu Sonar of Sikkim. Tadar Meku (54 kg) defeated Imsubina of Nagaland by 4-0.
Techi Yana (63 kg) and Mime Mangpi (60 kg) lost to their opponents from Assam and Nagaland, respectively.
In table tennis, Arunachal lost 1-3 to Mizoram in the third round in the women’s team event, while the men’s team lost 0-3 to Tripura in the second round.
The state beat Tripura 4-2 in their second match in the men’s football. Arunachal lost 0-5 to Manipur in their first match on Thursday.
In women’s football, Arunachal lost 0-3 to Manipur on Friday, informed chef de mission Nada Apa.
