Human rights orgs against kidnappings in TCL

ITANAGAR, 31 May: The NEFA Indigenous Human Right Organisation, the Global Human Right Organisation and the Arunachal Citizen’s Right have condemned the frequent kidnapping of innocent people in the Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) region by insurgent groups, particularly the NSCN (K-YA).

“We are deeply concerned about the life and liberty of the indigenous people of TCL region, where

fear psychosis dominates the minds of the common mass due to frequent kidnappings and extortions and killings of many innocent people, including prominent leaders, in the past for voicing against the illegal activities of the insurgents,” the organisations stated in a press release on Tuesday.

Extending solidarity to the organisations and individuals who are protesting against the abduction of innocent people, the human rights organisations stated that “time has come for people of Arunachal to collectively voice against such illegal and inhuman acts where women and children are the immediate victims.”

The people of the TCL region have been deprived of their rights and privileges due to multiple illegal activities carried out by outside insurgent groups, they said.

The organisations urged the union and the state governments to ensure safe return of the GB of Chattong village, who was abducted on 16 May, and to ensure lasting peace in the region.
