Arunachal lifters win 5 medals, including gold, in KIY Games

ITANAGAR, 6 Jun: Arunachal Pradesh clinched five medals – one gold, two silver and two bronze – in weightlifting on the third day of the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games at Panchkula in Haryana.

Bengia Tani won the gold medal in the 67 kg category. He lifted a total of 264 kgs (snatch 115 kgs, and clean & jerk 149 kgs).

Sankar Lapung won the silver medal in the 61 kg category. He lifted 246 kgs (snatch 109 kgs, and clean & jerk 137 kgs).

Boni Mangkhya won the silver medal in the 55 kg category. She lifted a total of 166 kgs (snatch 72 kgs, and clean & kerk 94 kgs).

Golom Tinku won the bronze medal in the 61 kg category by lifting 240 kgs (snatch 103 kgs, and clean & jerk 137 kgs), while Balo Yalam won the bronze medal in the 59 kg category. She lifted a total of 164 kgs (snatch 71 kgs, and clean & jerk 93 kgs).

Liza Kamsa (64 kg category) could not make it to the podium due to injury.

As of now, Arunachal has won a total of seven medals: 1 gold medal, four silver medals, and two bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the state’s boxing and judo teams left for Haryana on Monday, and their competitions will start on 9 June.
