ITANAGAR, 8 Jun: Shops and business establishments in Itanagar will remain closed every Wednesday instead of Sundays w.e.f. from 8 June.
The All Itanagar Market Welfare Association (AIMWA) president Dado Tajuk stated that the decision to close the shops and markets every Wednesday was taken by the members of the association ‘collectively.’
He further requested the shopkeepers to organize cleanliness drive every Wednesday.
The AIMWA had recently held a meeting with the capital administration, wherein it was suggested to keep the shops open on the weekends, including Sundays for the convenience of the employees. The participants in the meeting observed that the employees in both private and government sectors do not get time for shopping as most of the shops are closed by 7 pm and 8 pm.
When contacted, ICR deputy commissioner Talo Potom said that no official order has been so far issued in this regard from the district administration.
