Drug peddlers arrested, contraband seized

ZIRO, 21 Jun: The police here in Lower Subansiri district on Monday arrested three drug peddlers and seized 12 grams of suspected heroin, three mobile phones and Rs 12,900 in cash from their possession.

The trio has been identified as Azad Sheikh (alias Mintu), Hasibul Rahman, and Dilip Barack.

Sheikh, who had already been identified as a suspected drug peddler, was arrested by Ziro Police Station OC Inspector Millo Lalyang along with Constables Michi Napa and Napong Nyamtey when he was on his way to Hapoli. Four plastic vials containing suspected heroin, along with one plastic syringe and a mobile handset were seized from him.

Upon interrogation, Sheikh revealed that he had got the suspected heroin from a mason, Hasibul Rahman, for the purpose of selling. A police team led by Inspector Lalyang, along with Executive Magistrate Amina Nabam, under the supervision of SP Sachin Kumar, went to Hija village along with Sheikh and apprehended Rahman. A mobile phone was seized from him.

On interrogation, Rehman disclosed that another mason, Dilip Barack, had provided him with the drug for peddling. The police team and the magistrate arrested Barak and recovered five plastic vials containing suspected heroin, Rs 12,900 in cash and a mobile phone from his possession.

A case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the trio and further investigation is underway, the police said in a release.
