NTB Club celebrates World Badminton Day

ITANAGAR, 6 Jul: An intra-club badminton tournament themed “Pick up a racket today” was organized by NTB Club at Rono Hills, Doimukh on 5 July as part of the inaugural World Badminton Day celebration.

The men’s doubles tournament was participated by 11 teams, who were divided into two pools.

In the final match, the Dr. David Pertin and Anil Biswakarma edged past the duo of Tana Topu and Taje Pali 22-20, 19-21 & 21-17.

Biri Jordung and Divjo Miso were the second runner-up. They beat the duo of  Mundeep Deuri and Raijo Miso.

The trophies and cash prizes were given away by the chairman of the NTB Club-Rono Hills and RGU’s deputy registrar in-charge Nangram Toglik.

Winner Dr. David Pertin, who also is the RGU’s joint registrar, spoke on the significance of World Badminton Day.

He said that Badminton World Federation was founded on 5 July 1934,  and to mark this important date in badminton’s history, 5 July has been chosen as the day to be celebrated as World Badminton Day annually, starting from 2022.

Organizing secretary of the tournament Dr. Atol Bengia spoke about badminton, the second most popular sport in the world, in terms of participation.
