Guv for strong lokayukta to tackle corruption

ITANAGAR, 4 Aug: Governor BD Mishra said that the institution of the ombudsman, ie, the lokayukta, should be strengthened both in terms of functional autonomy and availability of Human Resources in order to tackle corruption.

He said this during a meeting with Lokayukta Chairperson PK Saikia at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.

“Corruption is perceived as a major crisis capable of jeopardising society’s stability and protection. It undermines the values of democracy and morality by threatening the nation’s social, economic, and political development,” the governor said.

Stressing on “probity in public life,” Mishra said that there is a need to decentralise institutions with appropriate accountability mechanisms to avoid the concentration of too much power in any one institution or authority.”

Saikia, who was accompanied by lokayukta member Yeshi Tsering, submitted the annual report of the state’s lokayukta. (Raj Bhavan)
