JONA KACHARI, 14 Sep: A solar-based lift water supply plant under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was inaugurated here in Namsai district by local MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom on Tuesday.
Lauding the initiative, the MLA, who was accompanied by DC CR Khampa, the ZPC, HoDs, PHED officials, and others, urged the community to “ensure sustainability of the water supply unit by taking collective responsibility.”
The DC informed that the JJM stresses on ownership by the villagers, and urged the village water & sanitation committee (VWSC) to “take ownership in letter and spirit and ensure due maintenance for sustaining the unit.”
PHED EE Radhe Raja also spoke about the “necessity of community involvement in sustaining the unit, whereby the VWSC, through the gram sabha, may raise minimum water tariff.”
Appointment letters were handed over to two operators of the unit.
Fifty-four households, with a population of 262, besides the anganwadi centre, the community toilet and the school will be provided with potable drinking water through this project. (DIPRO)
