APIC imposes penalty on PIOs

ITANAGAR, 18 May: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on Public Information Officer (PIO) and Chayang Tajo (East Kameng) RWD EE Kaku Pangia for violation of Section 7 (1) of the RTI Act, 2005, in APIC Case No 308/2022.

The APIC also imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on PIO and Likabali RWD EE Deli Kambu in APIC Case No 684/2022 “for his negligence and refusal in furnishing the information to the appellant Ijip Taso and defying the order of the commission.”

The PIO has been directed to deposit the penalty amount in favour of the APIC registrar through treasury challan on or before 1 June, and to appear before the SIC on the same day along with deposited copy of treasury challan, including information sought by the appellant.

The commission said that it will invoke Section 20 (2) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, if the PIO fails to comply with the order.
