ITANAGAR, May 29: The All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students’ Union on Tuesday demanded that an independent director for the interstate border affairs department be appointed, and that the office and other permanent infrastructure for the department be established.
In a memorandum it submitted to the chief minister’s office, the union said there is need for an independent director for the department as the interstate boundary issue is a major one.
The union also demanded that the state government appoint a local penal advocate to pursue boundary dispute cases in the Supreme Court.
Claiming that the state has a shortage of police personnel, especially in the APPBn, the union urged the government to accord re-concurrence to the creation of 977 posts in the 3rd batch of the APPBn recruitment proposal, to be deployed in border areas.
Although the assistant inspector general of police (ADM) had on 11 April, 2012, placed the proposal for creation of 977 posts in the battalion, the matter is still pending, it said.
