AALO, Feb 27: The streets of West Siang HQ Aalo wore a deserted look during the simultaneous 24-hour bandh imposed by the Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association (PAYWA) and the 12-hour bandh imposed by the Galo Students’ Union and the Arunachal Law Students’ Union over the PRC issue from 26 to 27 February.
During the bandh, which passed off peacefully, all markets and several office establishments remained closed, and plying of vehicles came to a standstill.
Members of the PAYWA also took out a candlelight march for the youths who died in police firing during the anti-PRC agitation in Itanagar.
The organisations have demanded that compensation be issued to the families of the deceased, and that justice be delivered to them.
Earlier, DC Swetika Sachan held a meeting with representatives of political parties, NGOs and CBOs, along with senior citizens and other stakeholders, and apprised them of the state government’s assurance that it would not take up the PRC issue again.
The DC called for utmost restraint in taking up the sensitive issue in the district, and said the administration is open to discussions with all stakeholders. (DIPRO)
