Legal awareness programme for Puroiks

ITANAGAR, Oct 9: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APPWS) on Monday conducted a legal awareness programme for the Puroik community at Papu Nallah, Naharlagun.
The objective of the programme was to apprise the Puroik community of their legal rights in the democratic setup.
Addressing the participating 60 members of the community, APSLSA Member Secretary, Budi Habung emphasised on gaining educational facilities for the development of the community. He also spoke on the roles and function of the APSLSA in providing free legal services through legal aid clinics in almost all districts.
APWWS Secretary General and advocate Kani Nada Maling spoke on bonded labour and child abuse, while advocate Jumgam Jini spoke on issues of domestic violence and Arunachal Pradesh Victim’s Compensation Scheme.
Nani Modi of the Department of Justice, GoI, spoke on the roles and functions of the child welfare committees and juvenile justice boards.
Besides APSLSA and APWWS members, the day also saw the participation of members of the All Puroik Women Welfare Society and All Puroik Students Union.
