AEKDSU calls off proposed dharna

SEPPA, Mar 23: The All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) on Thursday called off its proposed dharna on 26 March after an agreement was reached with the district administration.
A resolution was also passed to constitute a review committee at the EAC level, including the PWD EE, the DDSE, the CO (LM) and the headmaster of the Pacha middle school, to look into the matter of bridge construction from the school compound, the union said in a release.
The DA also agreed to carry out eviction drive at the GHSS premises, following due procedures of law, and assured to survey and demarcate all school lands at the earliest, it said.
Regarding the union’s demand for the transfer of the DDSE and the Seppa BEO, the DC informed that it was not under his purview. He, however, guaranteed to set up an inquiry team in the matter, the release added.
The AEKDSU had on Wednesday decided to stage a dharna as the first phase of its agitation to push its demands.
The union will suspend its agitation and give time to the authorities concerned to fulfill the demands, AEKDSU president Chakang Yangda announced after the meeting.
