60 patients register for free cataract surgery

ROING, Apr 24: Sixty patients have registered for a free cataract surgery camp being organised by the state unit of the Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti and the district hospital here, in association with the VKV Alumni Association of Roing.
The two-day free camp started on Monday at the hospital’s eye unit. It was inaugurated by Lower Dibang Valley DC Mitali Namchoom, in the presence of DMO Dr R Tatan and doctors and staff of the hospital.
A team of doctors from Nagpur, including eye surgeons Drs Jitendra Talavia and Abhijeet Deshpandey are conducting the eye operations with assistance from eye surgeon Dr C Tayang of the district hospital.
Earlier, screenings for identifying patients needing cataract surgery were conducted at Dambuk, Parbuk, Hunli, Koronu and Iduli.
Dr Tayang informed that, since the surgery requires a post-operative checkup on the following day, 35 beds have been arranged in the hospital to accommodate patients coming from far-off places.
Along with the surgery, post-operative medicines will also be provided free of cost to the patients.
Meanwhile, the DC launched the Special Intensified Mission Indradhanush for the district on the same day at the hospital.
