Make concerted efforts to achieve zero diarrhoeal death: FW director

ITANAGAR, May 18: Family Welfare Director K Lego has directed all the districts to make concerted efforts to achieve zero diarrhoeal death, and emphasized on creating awareness and promoting hand washing techniques at schools.
He was addressing a state-level review and orientation meeting for the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF), and maternal and child death review in a city hotel on Friday, which was attended by the DMOs and DRCHOs of all the districts.
Lego said maternal death related to pregnancy continues to have a huge impact on the lives of mothers and newborns.
“In order to address this issue, the government of India has initiated the review of maternal death,” he said, adding that maternal death review would not only provide detailed information on the factors contributing to maternal deaths but also help in finding timely intervention.
“Child death review is another important strategy to understand the geographical variation leading to deaths, and thereby initiating state-specific child health intervention,” Lego said.
Speaking on the IDCF, Dr Natung said there should be no discrepancy in reporting, while maternal health nodal officer Dr Runi Tassung said accurate data of maternal deaths should be maintained and selected cases presented to the district MDR committees, and then shared with the state for further course of action.
