ITANAGAR, May 25: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) training centre here, in the presence of Skill Development Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi.
The CM also flagged of a group of youths which left for Kolkata to participate in a skill-based training programme there. The training is being sponsored by the state government through the skill development department. As many as 240 students are taking the tourism and hospitality course being conducted by Orion Edutech in Itanagar, and another 60 at the Kolkata centre.
“Through the skill-based courses, we hope to provide employability to persons who are not academically qualified,” said the chief minister.
He said the government seeks to provide youths with high-end skill programmes, so that they can have decent jobs and income.
“Rs 20 crore has been allocated under the Chief Minister Yuva Kaushal Yojana with a target to provide high-end training to 1000 students in one year,” informed Pema.
He also informed that, under the proposed smart village programme, youths in the villages will be provided training on skill development.
“About 100 villages will be chosen for smart village programme and in 10 villages the project will be immediately launched after signing of MoU with the University of Berkely, California,” he said.
He emphasized that the government needs to give greater importance to skill development, and assured to depute a regular minister to manage the skill development department efficiently.
The CM said the state government will monitor and keep complete information on the progress of the training programmes at the Itanagar and Kolkata centres. (CMO)
