PRI to cease functioning from 31 May

ITANAGAR, May 28: The Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) in Arunachal Pradesh will cease to function from 31 May.
In a circular issued to all the deputy commissioners of the state, IPR Secretary Bidol Tayeng informed that “due to certain constitutional issues, there will be no institution of PRI in the state, with effect from 1 June, 2018, till reconstitution of the PRI after the next election.”
The administrations have been asked to inform all the panchayat members in their respective districts.
“The term of the present Panchayati Raj Institution (2013-’18) in the state expires on 31 May, 2018, as the state could not hold the panchayati raj election. While the government is working to frame new Panchayati Raj Rules in conformity with the Arunachal Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act, 2018, an institutional mechanism to discharge the functions of the Panchayati Raj Institution during the transition period has been worked out by the government,” the circular read.
