Congress loses another female candidate

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The Congress party in the state has lost another one of its female leaders with Toko Yaram’s resignation on Sunday evening, owing to the denial of party ticket for the Yachuli assembly constituency.
The party had earlier lost senior leader Jarjum Ete for the same reason.
Speaking to reporters, Yaram, who was an Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary, confirmed that she was leaving the Congress because the party had denied her the ticket.
An active member of the Congress for nearly two decades, Yaram said she had applied for the party’s ticket twice earlier – in 2009 and 2014 – and had been denied the ticket then, as well.
She said she had spoken with the APCC chief, but was not given a specific answer as to the reasons behind denying her the party ticket.
“I have sacrificed a lot for the party, but my efforts were not valued,” she said.
Yaram said she would still contest the election, with or without a Congress ticket.
