ITANAGAR, Jul 20: The quarterfinals of the state level Subroto Cup (U-17) football tournament for the girls will be played at the DNGC playground here on Sunday.
The league matches were completed on Saturday, and the eight teams which have reached the knock-out round are Dani Kunia GHSS (Lower Subansiri), GHSS Doimukh (Papum Pare), GSS Pachin (Capital Complex), GHSS Nari (Lower Siang), GHSS Yingkiong (Upper Siang), GHSS Motum (East Siang), GHSS Palin (Kra Daadi) and GHSS Boleng (Siang).
The first match of the day was held between GHSS Sangram (Kurung Kumey) and GHSS Teluliang (Lohit). The match was won by GHSS Sangram 3-0. However, both teams crashed out of the tournament.
Dani Kunia GHSS beat GHSS Bomdila (West Kameng) 5-0 in the second match, and reigning champion GHSS Doimukh beat GSS Pakam (West Siang) 2-0 in the third match, and GSS Pachin beat GHSS (Anjaw) 1-0 in the fourth match to secure their place in the last eight.
GHSS Nari (Lower Siang) and GSS New Seppa (East Kameng) played out a 2-2 draw in the last league match. GHSS Nari advanced to the quarterfinals on the basis of superior goal average.
The school representing Upper Siang will meet the school representing East Siang in the first quarterfinal, scheduled to be played at 6 am.
GHSS Doimukh and GSS Pachin will fight it out for the semifinal berth in the second match, to be played at 8 am.
While the school representing Kra Daadi will play against the school representing Lower Subansiri in the third match, the school representing Siang will be up against the school representing Lower Siang to grab the last semifinal spot.
