SYDNEY, Oct 8: Arunachal Legislative Assembly Speaker PD Sona on Sunday released two books, titled Celebrating the Life and Message of Mahatma Gandhi and Benevolent Principles of Bhagwan Mahavira, here in Australia.
Among others, spiritual leader Gurudev Rakeshbhai, a Jain spiritual teacher, the New South Wales education minister, and the consul general of the Indian high commission here were present on the occasion.
The event was organized by the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (SRMD), Australia, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Speaking on Gandhi, Sona said, “When His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama visited India during the Buddha Jayanti celebration at the age of 21, he was moved by two things – the ancient Indian tradition, and Mahatma Gandhiji’s freedom movement through ahimsa (non-violence).”
The speaker lauded the SRMD for its activities like organ donation, blood donation, feeding homeless people, instilling value-based education in young children, and preserving the rich Indian culture abroad. (PRO)
