Charu Pesi wins gold, creates national records in weightlifting

BODH GAYA, Oct 17: Promising weightlifter from Arunachal in the 61 kg weight category, Charu Pesi, created two national records, in the clean & jerk and the total categories, on his way to winning the gold in the ongoing Youth and Junior National Weightlifting Championship here in Bihar.
Pesi won the gold for Arunachal and became the national champion by lifting 112 kgs in snatch, and 142 kgs in clean & jerk – a total of 254 kgs.
Other weightlifters of the state, Ruba Tadu and Bengia Tani, also participated in the same bodyweight category, but could not win medals.
Tadu lifted 97 kgs in snatch and 125 kgs in clean & jerk, for a total of 222 kgs, while Tani lifted 96 kgs in snatch and 127 kgs in clean & jerk, for a total of 223 kgs.
In the evening session of the championship, Balo Yalam of Arunachal won the bronze medal. She lifted 63 kgs in snatch, and 83 kgs in clean & jerk, for a total of 146 kgs.
The total medal tally of Arunachal’s athletes now is three gold and one bronze.
