Arunachal boxers win silver, bronze in NSGB

ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Two young boxers from Arunachal – John Lapung and Ruba Juju – bagged the silver and the bronze medal, respectively, in the 65th U-14 National School Games Boxing (NSGB) in Haryana.
Lapung had to contend with the silver after he lost his final bout to Sikkim’s Jayant Dagar in 3-2 split verdict in the 44-46 kg bodyweight category.
A student of Amar Jyoti Middle School in Bn Colony here, Lapung currently trains at the Ganga Boxing Club.
Juju secured the bronze after reaching the semifinal. He is a student of the government middle school in Papu Nallah, and currently trains at the SAI’s special area games centre in Naharlagun.
Ten boxers from various schools of the state participated in the championship.
Dani Tamang and Gumin Gara were the manager and the coach, respectively, of the team.
A week ago, Huri John (52 kg) and Taw Pakba (63 kg) had won the silver and the bronze in the NSGB held for the U-17 year category in Aizawl, Mizoram.
