Roing, Dec 2: A dead body of a child was found from the jungles near the Bombgodown area here on Monday.
The baby boy, believed to be not more than 4-5 days old as he had his umbilical cord still intact, was discovered by some children playing in the area. The left side of the boy was disfigured.
OC Roing Nyumyom Sora informed that on receiving telephonic information about the body at about 3:30pm, he and his team rushed to the spot.
“The body has been handed over to the District Hospital for post mortem to learn the cause of death”, he said adding that
although they do not have any clue as of now, the police will find out the culprits eventually.
The FIR was lodged jointly by Child Care Institute (CCI) Chairperson Desai Linggi and AIMSU President Mapu Mihu.
Linggi expressed anguish over the matter and said that this is the second case in the past couple of months where newborn babies have been abandoned.
She said that there needs to be awareness about adoption. Linggi also said that the lack of awareness is mainly because of absence of Special Adoption Agencies (SAA).
“There is only one SAA for the whole of Arunachal which is located in Naharlagun. Not all are aware about it and others do not want to take the pain to go there. The Government should establish such agencies across the state to avoid such situations”, she said.
In presence of accessible SAAs, there will be less abandoned babies if not any, and no illegal adoptions, Linggi added.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered and investigation is on.
